What You Need to Know
The barns will be available from the day before your event, to allow for deliveries, decorating and setting up and until midday on the following day to remove any remaining items. You can choose whether to bring your own food, or use one of the caterers from our list; we are more than happy to see new caterers but they must carry out a site visit before the event so that we can meet them and explain what is required – this also helps them to provide the right number of staff.
Boring but important:
Registrars allocate a limited time period for weddings so if you are very late they may have to go to another ceremony!
Toilets – we have a ladies and gents toilets but if your numbers are large you may need extra toilets which we can hire for you
Parking is partly in the yard and partly along private avenue – for large numbers we can use the fishery car park
Taxis – do remember to tell guests to book their taxis in advance
Leaving the party – we find it is best for the bride & groom to leave before the end so that are not swept out!
The barn will be available the next day for clearing up – if there is an event the day after next we would need you to clear up by 12:00
Things we provide:
PA Systems – 3 to choose from with one portable (this is included in the cost for a ceremony).
Tables: c30 10ft x 2ft Traditional Trestle Tables; 14 x 5ft Diameter round tables; 150 folding chairs; c100 Blue banquetting chairs
Plates, dishes etc. Cutlery. Choice of glassware: Champagne flutes, Wine glasses, Highballs, Pint glasses.
Decor – we have a stock of decorative items which we include.
Transport: We have a delightful French gentleman who is happy to be available with a 4-seater or a 7-seater to convey guests to and from Breckenhill.
For ceremonies: 3m x 3m gazebo, Portable PA, chairs and a table, aisle runner and setup.
Wedding Reception Areas:
We have two buildings, the Stone barn and the Green barn and we find the best weddings use all the different spaces as your guests will love the variety and the space.
The Stone Barn – Upstairs – Main Room:
The large, wooden-floored room upstairs is 14 metres by 5 metres and well-lit with natural light. It is licensed for wedding ceremonies and dining for up to 80. It can be used for other functions as well.
There are plenty of power-points around the room. You are free to decorate the room to your preferred taste. There is no wheelchair access however there are two accesses and the external fire escape is suitable for ambulant disabled.
The Stone Barn – Downstairs:
The reception room is 8.4 metres by 5 metres, and has original stone walls, and a wood-burning stove. French windows open out to the barbecue area, tennis court and garden. The room can be set up with any combination of furniture and used as a dining area, for receptions or for dancing! There are ramps at the front and rear of the building for disabled access to the yard and garden.
The Stone Barn – Kitchen:
Equipped with modern stainless steel gas appliances and worktops, the kitchen is compact but well-equipped. Again, included in the hire are plates, glasses and cutlery for up to about 100 people. Wedding groups can choose a caterer from our list or choose their own.
The Stone Barn – Fridge room:
We have a separate room downstairs with its own access which has no less than 6 fridges, a fridge/freezer and 2 freezers for your use! Use of this facility is included in the bar charge.
Toilet facilities:
Upstairs: 1 toilet
Downstairs: 2 ladies toilets (one disabled), 2 shower/changing rooms and a gents toilet with 2 loos (1 disabled) and 3 urinals.
The Green barn:
Space
For larger events you will need the Green barn which is hired in conjunction with the Stone Barn (because all the services are in the Stone Barn). The Green Barn comprises three areas: The main barn c 20m x 7m, the bar area c 5m x 6.5m and the extension sunroom c 14m x 4.5m
These areas offer complete covered flexibility for you to decorate and use as you see fit. Fully powered, with air-blower heating and some decorative lighting, the basic platform is there for you to adapt. You can seat c140 for dining but more for the party (up to 220).
There is also an outdoor seating area beside the extension with a sunken firepit.

Outdoor games – Tennis, croquet and garden games can be provided
