Save the date! Our 2025 Wedding Open Day will be Save the date! Our 2025 Wedding Open Day will be on Sunday 18th May, from 1pm to 5pm. We’ll have some chilled fizz, tea and coffee, and a sample of our lovely Edie’s delicious shortbread! Bring your family and friends, entry is free, as are the refreshments. Dogs welcome too, on a lead, there’s lots of space to take them for a walk. A week on from the storm and all is calm! The Sto A week on from the storm and all is calm! The Stone Barn is all ready for tonight’s 80th birthday celebration, with the fire lit and fairy lights on. This barn is perfect for private parties, and can accommodate up to 80 in the room upstairs. The reception room with the woodburning stove has doors out to the patio at the back and courtyard at the front. There’s a small but well equipped kitchen. For us, the saddest victim of #storméowyn was the For us, the saddest victim of #storméowyn was the venerable beech tree by our bushcraft area. It was one of very few trees left here when we arrived at Breckenhill in 1988 (right hand tree of last photo), and we loved it for its quirkiness and multi faceted life! It would appear that it was pollarded at a relatively early stage (some 200 years ago) which produced a multi stemmed tree with a massive trunk that seemed to be made up of several smaller trees. Maybe this was something to do with the needs of the beetling mill which stood alongside. It supported a variety of other species including fabulous bracket fungi, ferns and bird life. The inside is like a sponge, you can push your finger into it easily, so it didn’t have long to go. We will miss its impressive presence. #storméowyn #breckenhill#ancientbeechtree #fungi

The leaves are a wonderful ground cover as long as they are dry, and go on the leaf mould pile later for feeding other plants, flowers and vegetables. We ended our season with a fabulously quirky and p We ended our season with a fabulously quirky and personal wedding for Ruthie and Max. The families (especially the bride’s father!) worked so hard to create the perfect day for them with so many wonderful different touches, from the bus stop sign, to the colourfully painted piano, rugs, arches, the backdrop, and the garden games. With the stretch tent from Stretch Tents up, and loads of umbrellas on standby, of course it didn’t rain! But it made a great spot for the ceremony. The gorgeous flowers by @alessiabloomstudio on the arches and arrangements and bouquets brought the best of autumn colour to the barn. The amazingly stunning cake was made by a good friend (and guest!) @blixtbakery , what a stunner! Drinks were served from the brilliant @thegiddybox , and delicious food by our lovely friends at @spittingpig and then it was welcome back to @thejustadamband to dance the night away!We wish Ruthie and Max all the very best for the future, along with Raymond the dachshund (seen in miniature on the cake looking like he’s already dug in!!) in their new home. #breckenhill#breckenhillweddings #breckenhillbarn #quirkyweddings#diywedding #outdoorceremony #horseboxbar #weddinginspiration
It’s already three days since our wonderful musi It’s already three days since our wonderful music festival @under.the.drum and we’re still buzzing! There was so much to enjoy, poetry from @seamusheaneycentre , drumming with @communitytribaldrummers , making silver pendants with @clairemooneysilver , falconry with @hawk_walks_n.i , along with all the amazing bands and solo artists. The campsite was full, and the weather mainly played along. Standing in our field in the dark, looking out over Tildarg dam and down to Cave Hill in the distance, listening to @joshuaburnside was one of the best moments of our lives! We loved meeting the campers the next morning for breakfast, and hearing their very positive feedback. To everyone who came along and supported the festival, and believed in us and our project, thank you. #underthedrum #underthedrumfestival #breckenhill #musicfestival #breckfest
