Maintenance, maintenance! It’s that time of yea

Maintenance, maintenance! It’s that time of year, the days are lengthening, and we have even seen a little sunshine! Time to get out the brushes, drills, saws and ladders, and start sprucing up for the season. Walls washed and painted, rotting doors replaced, furniture sanded and painted, and bushcraft shelter rebuilt with new branches and tree trunks. The winter was very harsh this year, and the storms had taken their toll.
All very satisfying, but plenty more to do!

Happy #internationalwomensday to all our fabulous female staff! We really couldn’t do what we do without you all! Special mention for Edie, who is a favourite with our couples, helping put them at ease, managing the running of the day, working away front of house and behind the bar, cutting up cake, and getting stuck into the washing up! Also Payal, Lydia, Jenny, Amy, Anne, Alice and the rest (and all the boys - Johnny, Daniel, Harry etc too!) - thank you! The office would be a disaster area without Cathy, who also helps out with the outdoor activities, and has seen us through thick and thin.

We’re so looking forward to this year’s weddings - and last year we ended on a real high with Louise and Melissa’s wonderful, relaxed and beautiful day! Lots of very personal touches, and a stunning outdoor (in October!) ceremony, with dreamy autumn colours.

A strange old day, no power, so quiet and cold. Until we started up the chainsaw to begin to cut the trees that had been brought down by #stormisha A giant larch tree had been uprooted, revealing the very high water level underneath which probably had a lot to do with why it fell. It’s been so wet. But the day had a double silver lining for my inner twitcher! These last two are not my photos, as I wasn’t close enough (the white blob over the trees is my best effort!) but first of all I saw a white bird flying towards me up the hill, that turned out to be a Little Egret! Probably blown off course from Lough Neagh or Strangford. Then, back indoors, I looked out and saw a Greater Spotted Woodpecker on the bird feeder! Heard here 18 months ago but never seen! Great joy!

We are deeply grateful and so thrilled to be nominated once again for the Northern Ireland Wedding Awards! 8 years in a row! This time we are in two categories (we don’t choose - our nominators do!) Wedding Venue of the Year and Romantic Venue of the Year. The award ceremony is on 31st January, wish us luck!

When you book your wedding at Breckenhill, all the

When you book your wedding at Breckenhill, all these spaces are yours for the day, and more! The Green Barn has a lot of room for casual seating, games, and displays of photos, buffet, cake and sweet tables, crisp walls etc. Most of the decor is ours and available for couples to use however they want. The Stone Barn can be used for the ceremony (upstairs) and the Prosecco reception and grazing table downstairs, where doors lead out to the patio (giant Jenga anyone?!) and archery zone! Then into the main room for dinner, speeches and at last, dancing! This was our first wedding of last year, where the couple made use of the space beautifully. Smaller weddings can just have the Stone Barn, but still use the outdoor gardens and grounds.
We still have some availability this year, so if you’re thinking about getting married sooner rather than later, let us know!

Cracking weekend of paintball! Saturday’s birthday party group nearly got lost in the fog, but fired a lot of shots, and Sunday’s had a stag party blast 💥! Loving the outfit for the stag!!
You can book through Bedlam Paintball, or even better, directly with us!
We also do a kids’ version of Splatmaster paintball for age 8 and up.
